t is a Postpartum Doula?
A Postpartum Doula
is a woman who comes into your home after baby has arrived to help with just about anything you need help with. Most postpartum
Doulas are mothers who have their own children and have enjoyed motherhood. Postpartum Doulas want you to have that too. They are there to help your family transition into parenthood if it's your first baby or help in bringing a new sibling(s) into the home.
Postpartum Doulas vary in the services they offer but most offer the following:
- Routine newborn care and guidance or education of the mother in
bathing, cord care, diapering, calming techniques, and newborn nutrition
and development
- Breastfeeding assistance
- Household tasks including laundry, light housekeeping, grocery
shopping, and meal preparation, pet care, running errands
- Accompanying mother and baby to pediatrician appointments
Some specialize in multiples and others are retired RN's who offer specialized medical training to help with your premee or twins special needs.
Postpartum Doulas are there to support the parents and get you off to a good start.
