Sounds to weird too actually be true right? People eat their placenta?
Yes they do and with good results I might add! Some families just take it home
and bury it under a fruit tree and then the tree becomes the child's special tree to take care of (sometimes they freeze the placenta and wait until the child is old enough to help them plant it under their tree - I am sure they label it well!).

Encapsulating your placenta can help balance your hormones, enhance your milk supply and increase your energy. The best time to start encapsulation is within 24-48 hours after birth. Cost is $250.00 and there are additional items you can add to this service as well - prints, salve and tincture.

I can do the encapsulation process at your home or mine if you prefer and you are welcome to watch. I bring all of the supplies and clean up as I go.There is a faster turn around if do it at my home because I can encapsulate it in the middle of the night if it is dry and run it over in the morning.

The first visit consists of rinsing, steaming and dehydrating the placenta. Then the next day I return to grind it into powder and encapsulate it. Some mothers want pieces of their placenta to be ingested raw in a smoothie or a juice chaser. You cannot taste the placenta and it is a faster way of absorbing the placenta until your capsules are done. I can freeze small portions of your placenta if you wish to do this for the first week or two.

NOTE:
It's important to check with your hospital AND your provider to see what their policies are regarding your placenta. Kaiser let's you walk out with it, while Scripps La Jolla won't let you have it at all(may be changing). Pomerado sends it to Palomar Hospital's lab and can sometimes take a week to return it to you. In this case, it would not be safe to consume.

Some hospitals regard your placenta as hazardous waste and they send it to pathology for tests. Those tests are for infectious diseases like HIV and Hepatitis, information that they should already have as your caregiver. If you were to have those two diseases, they could not let that out of the hospital and that is easily understood. You have the right to refuse all testing and keep the placenta with you.

Let me play devils advocate here - - if you do not have those diseases, and it is your body part - why shouldn't you have a say as to what happens to it? You don't sign a waiver that states they can have anything that comes out of your body - otherwise, they would be keeping your baby as well. It's important to have this all worked out ahead of time so the moments after your baby arrives are not spent in a battle. If they insist on taking a piece to pathology - you can easily cut it off for them and retain the rest.  Kind and gentle folks - you catch more flies with honey. Work this out ahead of time!

The TCM Principal:

The basic conceptual of Traditional Chinese Medicine

One of the major assumptions inherent in traditional Chinese Medicine is that disease is due to internal imbalances of Yin and yang; therefore, disease can be treated by correcting the Yin Yang imbalance, thereby returning the body to a healthy state. The Chinese assume that the body is whole, and each part of it is intimately connected.

The Balance of Nature

The Chinese believes that health is achieved, and disease prevented, by maintaining the body in a ‘balanced state'. This concept was applied to both individual and society.

Placenta has been used for thousands of years in Chinese medicine to balance out the body after birth. In fact, it is also regularly given for all forms of depression in both men and women. It replaces our modern anti-depressants such as Prozac or Zoloft.

Get On Our Calendar
I know that babies come when they feel like it so putting your due date just keeps me from taking too many encapsulations at the same time. I do work with a backup HypnoBirthing Practitioner and with my sister just in case 3 come at one time and we need to start the dehydrating process to ensure the best results. If you have already paid me, I will transfer that payment to them, you just may have to sign their paperwork for their files.
